About Us
The Egyptian Transparency Network "ETN" is a community coalition that aims to dedicate efforts with governmental organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations "NGOs", and Civil Society Organizations "CSOs". The Egyptian Transparency Network, or the "ETN", is also one of the activities of the Advocating Transparency and Accountability Project "ATAP".
ATAP is implemented by the Development and Institutionalization Support Center "DISC", and supported by the United States Agency for International Development "USAID".
The ETN was launched as a response to three urgent calls:
* Mr. President's call to fight administrative corruption and to enhance transparency in the Government's sectors, in his speech in front of both People's Assembly and El-Shoura Council on November 19, 2006. This speech gave the green light to several Egyptian and international organizations to observe, uncover, and analyze corruption cases, and to recommend alternative solutions supporting social and governmental efforts towards this issue.
* According to Corruption Perception Index, Egypt's transparency rank dropped down to 105 in 2007 after it was 73 in 2006 according to Transparency International.
* The Egyptian Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center's issued research study, which concerned the Egyptian community's perception of corruption. This research would help to raise awareness about the corruption that people unknowingly participate in on a daily basis.
ETN observes the progress of transparency and integrity issues and initiatives over national and international levels. In addition, the ETN seeks networking with: government officials, active civil society members, journalists, decision makers, and international organizations which are involved in the accountability and transparency affairs.
The Egyptian Transparency Network "ETN" provides consultancy and support to seekers of anti-corruption mechanisms and strategies of enhancing transparency which comply with the Egyptian constitution, national and international laws, and international pacts ratified by the Egyptian government.
As a legislative guidance; Egyptian and international laws are available on the website, the ETN specifies a section for complaints received from victims who suffered from corrupt practices within any of the State's administrative sectors.
Accordingly, the ETN coordinates with the Integrity and Transparency Committee affiliated to the Ministry of State for Administrative Development to find solutions or develop preventive mechanisms to limit the spread of corruption and violations of integrity principals.
